TONIGHT's Topic: "I Hope You're Hungry!"
We are returning to our odyssey through the book of Daniel with Nebuchadnezzar's second dream, from Daniel chapter four. While we noted the contrast between the Jewish culture and religion and the Babylonian culture and religion, it hadn't dawned on me that there was a huge contrast between the faithfulness to God of Daniel and his friends, and the very reason the Jews were conquered and sent into captivity - idolatry.
We have all known someone who got too big for their britches, or got a big-head, or overstepped their bounds, and needed to be taken down a few notches, but it doesn't always happen. We have known people who were SO full of themselves that it was hard to be around them. We have seen awful people thrive and good people laid-low. We need to note a couple of things: 1) We aren't always spared the consequences of our refusal to "conform", and 2) the "bad-guy" doesn't always get his just-reward.
Nebuchadnezzar was so full of himself that God had to use drastic-measures to take him down a few notches. He was going to go from being a magnificent tree to rotting stump, the palace to a pasture, and from being a king to acting like a wild-beast. He was going to need more than a shower and shave when God got done with him. Sasquatch was going to have company for a while.
While it is blatantly-obvious that Nebuchadnezzar was full of himself, we get a not-so-subtle hint that there was far more going on than meets the eye. Join us TONIGHT as we look into Daniel 4 and find striking parallels to our own era.
