TONIGHT's Topic: "Becoming More 'Present' in our Relationships"
Going from "Cat's In The Cradle" to "Wind Beneath My Wings".
Many of us are relationally-challenged, whether it was how we were raised, or the results of other life experiences, such as military service. We never learned how to relate to others, particularly to our families. We aren't experts in "How To Win Friends And Influence People", and our relational skills, or lack thereof, don't serve us well, particularly in the civilian community.
My own dad didn't know how to relate other in an authoritarian manner, so that was all that was modeled for me, something I have struggled to leave behind. Dad was also emotionally-distant, which affected how I related to my own family.
We will discuss these two well-known songs, which represent polar-opposite relational styles.
