While 2020 didn't get off to a very auspicious start, and it seems that everything has gone downhill from there, many of us had made plans for what we hoped to accomplish this year, whether it was job aspirations, or planning a long-overdue vacation, and then the MOAB hit. When COVID-19 hit our shores, we were told that it was going to be a "pandemic" of epic-proportions, and everything changed overnight. Suddenly, it wasn't whether a person was going to get a better job, but whether they were still going to have a job. Vacation plans were no longer about where you were going to go, but about whether you would be able to go on vacation. The question is no longer "When will things return to "normal"?", but "What will the new "normal" look like?"

Just a few days ago, we paused to remember those who lost their lives on 9-11, but far more devastating than the loss of life was the countless hopes and dreams that were dashed because of that tragedy. Survivor's worlds were turned upside-down. Whether it is a national tragedy, or something more local, tragedy strikes when we least expect it. Nobody is immune. My own "9-11" was October 22, 1997, when everything that could go wrong did, once again proving that Murphy was an optimist. Perhaps you also have a story about when your world got turned upside-down.

We will join two long-faced followers of Jesus as they trek the road between Jerusalem and Emmaus, just hours after His resurrection, and even though Jesus had conquered death and the grave, they still expected more...
