One in five people worldwide experiences a mental health disorder each year, yet about eight out of 10 won’t reach out for support, largely because of mental health stigma. The stigma of mental illness isn’t just an individual problem; it’s a veteran and first responder problem.

So, what is stigma in mental health? It’s the negative beliefs and attitudes people have about what it means to struggle with mental health, including what it means to be diagnosed with a mental health disorder or seek treatment.
