“Impact of Military/Veteran Culture on Mental Health!” with Warriors for Life (WFL)

Drop in TONIGHT with Volunteer and Army Veteran Mikel Burroughs for "Burly's Warriors" edition of Warriors for Life (WFL) Online, presented by Victory for Veterans, Inc. (VFV).

We are asking everyone to share who we are and what support Victory for Veterans provides via WFL. If you know someone who is a veteran, first responder or a family member/caregiver, please ask them to join us for at least one meeting so they can learn more about what we do and how they can share their wisdom with others who may be able to learn from them.

We thank you in advance for being our voice and sharing our program and mission with everyone you know that can help and in turn benefit from their peers in a safe environment - the more people that are aware, the more lives we can affect and save for another day.

TONIGHT's Topic: “Impact of Military/Veteran Culture on Mental Health!”

Join Mikel TONIGHT evening and let's get together online for the Warriors for Life (WFL) and talk about “Impact of Military/Veteran Culture on Mental Health!”

The transition from military service to civilian life can be a significant challenge for many veterans. Military culture is often marked by structure, discipline, and camaraderie, while civilian life tends to be more flexible and individualistic. This shift can lead to mental health challenges as veterans adjust to a new way of living and working. For many veterans, feelings of isolation, anxiety, and loss of purpose can arise during this transition, affecting both mental and emotional well-being.

Facets of military and Veteran culture that are less commendable but no less common. For instance, Veterans often have an outlook on life--and a corresponding sense of humor--that is dark, morbid, pessimistic, and/or cynical. Also, military and Veteran culture tends to promote denial and suppression as the most acceptable approaches to dealing with physical and emotional pain. Similarly, there is often reluctance to seek professional help among the Veteran population, particularly for mental health concerns. It is important to note, that these cultural patterns are understandable, given the duties with which our Service Members are tasked, the stressors they often face, and the possible consequences for their lives if they acknowledge their struggles.

Our Vision at Victory for Veterans, Inc. (VFV) is simple: "Where Hope, Support, and Healing come together!"
