God's primary purpose in our lives is that we become like Jesus. God foreknew those who would accept His Son, believe, and become His followers. Once someone becomes a believer, God predestines them to become like Jesus. This is the ultimate destiny of every believer. Being conformed to the image of Jesus takes effort on our part. But it’s a different effort than many presume. For the believer in Jesus, our work is to renew our minds until we come into agreement with what God’s word says at a core heart level. Every good thing we say and do rightly flows out of that renewed mind. Some move further along that journey in this lifetime than others. Most, however, do not put the effort or commitment that it takes in this lifetime to move very far along that journey to become like Jesus. Instead they will end up renewing their minds after they step into eternity. Why wait when you can start that journey right here and now in this life? |
For whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. — Romans 8:29 (WEB) |
