Jesus set us free. The problem is that so many of His followers don't know it. They go back to all the rules and regulations, all the dos and don'ts, and think that somehow makes them better. But trying to learn which rules to follow completely misses what Jesus did for you. Jesus fulfilled the Law perfectly on your behalf. Even though He lived a perfectly righteous life under the law, the Bible tells us He became sin so that you might become the very righteousness of God in Christ by faith in His finished work. Once you believed in Jesus, you became part of His very body here on earth. Since you are part of His body, you get the same benefits He earned through His obedience when you receive them by faith. You truly are free in Christ. This freedom you now have comes with responsibility. You can choose whatever you want. However, you do not get to choose the consequences of your choice. If you sow to your flesh, you will reap corruption and if you sow to the Spirit, you will reap eternal life. Those consequences are tied to your choices. Therefore exercise your freedom responsibly. Choose wisely. |
Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and don’t be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. — Galatians 5:1 (WEB) |
