Many people struggle to find balance in their lives between their jobs, family, relationship with God, and so on. But that won’t bring the peace we desperately crave because it’s the wrong goal. Instead of striving for balance we do well to put these things in proper order. The Bible reveals order as one of God’s many characteristics. He spoke to the chaotic void to bring forth a wonderfully complex and ordered creation. Likewise, the Bible teaches clear priorities in our lives. Our relationship with God comes be first, then our husband or wife, and then our children. The work we do for our job or ministry then is prioritized in order below all that. When order things according to God's priorities, we will experience the peace that balance promises, but never quite actually delivers. God is the God of order, not chaos. |
