Have you ever known someone who was a very outspoken Christian constantly preaching at everyone around them, but were themselves such a mess that they caused strife and chaos everywhere they went?

You almost want to say to them, "Please stop telling people you're a Christian. You're making it harder for the rest of us to reach them."

Jesus said we are to be a city on a hill, a light shining before men. That’s part of why, the moment we identify with Jesus, people start watching us. Because Jesus intends for us to be seen, we do well to choose to live a more holy life. It avoids creating a stumbling block for others to receive Jesus.

At the end of the day, if the message our actions sends to our friends and family doesn't align with Jesus, preaching at them won't help bring them closer to Him.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. — Matthew 5:16 (NKJV)
