Far too many Christians let their emotions and feelings determine what they believe. Others give their own personal experience more weight when deciding what they believe about God than what is written on the pages of scripture. This is unwise.
Instead the only way to know the truth with any certainty is to look to the word of God. There we will see truth. When we choose to believe what the Bible says, we can also choose to then let our emotions adjust to that truth.
The Bible calls this walking by the Spirit and contrasts it to walking in the flesh.
The things of God are spiritual and therefore must be discerned by our spirits, and not by the emotions and feelings of our soulish man. Value the truth of God's word above your emotions. Then over time your emotions will learn to follow the truth.
Now the natural man doesn’t receive the things of God’s Spirit, for they are foolishness to him, and he can’t know them, because they are spiritually discerned. — 1 Corinthians 2:14 (WEB)
