Gene’s Daily Scriptural Postings

When God gives us a word, He is serious that we should obey it. Disregarding a clear word from God, even for what seems like the best of reasons, might have disastrous consequences which are completely hidden right now in the time of our decisions.

King Saul chose expediency instead of obedience. He neglected to follow God’s instructions through Samuel to kill all the Amalakites, though he lied and said he did. We know this because 400 years later a Haman, a descendant of the Amalakite king Agag whom Saul didn’t kill, nearly wiped out the entire Jewish race. Fortunately God worked through Mordecai and Esther to save the line of Jesus.

The good news is this. When we learn to hear God's voice correctly and clearly, and respond by doing what He tells us to the absolute best of our ability, then we will step into a destiny we barely dared to dream was possible.

But Samuel replied,

“What is more pleasing to the Lord:

your burnt offerings and sacrifices

or your obedience to his voice?

Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice,

and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.

Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft,

and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols.

So because you have rejected the command of the Lord,

he has rejected you as king.” — 1 Samuel 15:22-23 (NLT)
