The Chico State Student Veteran Organization and I are continuing our work to secure a facility on campus to house a Veteran Service Center.
A secure and friendly place for veterans to decompress and support each other.
Several schools in our state and throughout the country have already allocated space for this much needed purpose. We have the support of administrators and now our efforts are focused on a formal proposal to the correct body of decision makers on our campus.
We are also actively pursuing a $100,000 grant by writing and submitting a proposal before the beginning of March.
This funding would go toward the operation of the one-stop shop – a Veteran Service Center - to provide student veterans with everything necessary to achieve academic success at Chico State and remain current on Veteran issues.
There are several functions of the Veteran Service Center. We need to accomplish the following; purchase specialized software and equipment for veterans with special needs, prepare and conduct distinct veteran orientation to the Chico campus and community, disseminate our programs by mentoring to nearby community colleges, prepare and conduct regular training sessions about campus and community resources, and promote general awareness to our constituents both on and off campus about the increasing needs of our returning student veterans.
Please contact me if you need more information.
God Bless,
Larry
